In the world of science, everyday scientists are figuring out new ways to make technology greater so that life for us humans can be better. One of the major areas of innovation that scientists are continuing to improve upon is Artificial Intelligence. For this essay, the topic of ethics that I chose to write about is the Case Study on Artificial Intelligence; I chose this topic because I felt like it was the most important and interesting one. There are many different views and ideas concerning the subject of Artificial Intelligence and this paper will outline a few of the benefits and drawbacks associated with Artificial Intelligence and whether or not it is moral or ethical. First, what is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Artificial Intelligence is the ââ¬Å"capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behaviorâ⬠. The concept of Artificial Intelligence has been around for a long time; in fact, ââ¬Å"the ancient Greeks had myt hs about robots, and Chinese and Egyptian engineers built automatonsâ⬠(Lewis). Although the theory of Artificial Intelligence had been around for ages, the term ââ¬Å"Artificial Intelligenceâ⬠was not coined until 1955 by John McCarthy who was a professor of Computer Science at Stanford and is viewed as the ââ¬Å"Father of Artificial Intelligenceâ⬠(Myers). He invented the computer programming language LISP which is still used today and happens to be the programming language of choice for artificial intelligence (Myers).Show MoreRelatedEssay on An Overview of Artificial Intelligence1748 Words à |à 7 PagesAn Overview of Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence, a concept that would make possible our most remote dreams, specially for housewives. Life is running at a microchip speed. If all computers are stopped for a day, complete civilization comes to a halt! Fifty years ago, this mightve been a science fiction, but today it is a reality. Further, with Computers being embedded in all of our life accessories like mobiles, watches, cars, even our bodies and brains there is no indication that this microchipRead MoreArtificial Intelligence Concepts : The Future Of AI1711 Words à |à 7 Pagesmanipulation. Mr. Skep Ticks is a skeptic of the aforementioned concepts and believes that AIs cannot be intelligent. Intelligence, he believes, can only be simulated by systems but not created. Having all of you seated in front of me brings about the unique opportunity to ask if either of you believe that a machine can achieve intelligence. Ayala: In order to answer this question, one must have a bit of some context information. For example, what is good old-fashioned AI? What is symbol manipulationRead MoreThe Ai : Boon Or Disadvantage1004 Words à |à 5 PagesTemperamental AI: Boon or Disadvantage in Creativity? Artificial Intelligence has gained an increasing amount of wind in the past few years. Allowing machines to do most of our work for us allows us to focus (or not focus) on different aspects of our life. However, the question must be asked, will giving AI human-like emotions and thought processes actually help us be more creative or discourage us to ââ¬Å"think outside the box?â⬠First and foremost, we need to understand what a Temperamental AI isRead MoreImportance Of Artificial Intelligence1156 Words à |à 5 PagesTitle: Understanding Emotional Intelligence and its role in development of AI Introduction In 1983, Howard Gardener, an American psychologist proposed eight (originally seven) types of intelligences (Gardner, Howard, 1983, Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences). Emotional Intelligence was not one of the eight as it did not fulfill eight criteria set by Gardener which all intelligence must meet. It is interesting that Gardener gave interpersonal intelligence place in the list as it dealsRead MoreOn Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins1675 Words à |à 7 PagesIn On Intelligence, Jeff Hawkins hypothesizes a system of human intelligence based on memory, predictions, and pattern matching in what he calls a ââ¬Å"memory-prediction framework.â⬠Because he studied and worked in computer science, rather than neuroscience, Hawkins has a unique perspective and writes in terms that are accessible to someone from a non-neurological background or standpoint and often analogous to computer architecture, making the subject matter relatable to the interested layman.
